Where it
comes from

Chia was farmed, taxed and eaten across Mesoamerica for thousands of years, and it very nearly disappeared. The word itself is Mayan for strength, which tells you what people thought they were getting.

None of that is why it works. It's why it lasted long enough for anyone to find out.

Read the history

An aerial view over a dry highland valley: small terraced plots edged with dry stone walls and rows of blue-green agave, prickly pear scattered across the bare ground, a shallow gravel river winding through, and a forested volcanic cone rising beyond.

Ten reasons
to eat it

Fullness, fiber, omega-3, steadier blood sugar, fewer cravings — ten of them, and the question worth asking is which ones matter to you and your family.

Then see what's really in a serving, how it stacks up against the foods you already eat, and why we open every seed cold instead of milling it — so you get all of it.

Read the benefits

A small heap of whole dry chia seeds on pale stone at high magnification, each seed a flattened oval mottled in charcoal, brown and cream, with a scatter of loose seeds around the base.

What it does
in a hard week

Fat, fiber and protein arriving together rather than as a spike of sugar and then the drop. Mesoamerican messengers carried chia for the distance it bought them, and the reason hasn't changed.

For athletes

A cyclist in a red jersey and white helmet riding through tropical highland country in bright daylight, banana palms blurred behind him.

The same seed,
in a smaller bowl

Your dog or cat's bowl has the same Omega-6/Omega-3 problem yours does — and chia fixes it the same way. No grinding, no fridge, no smell your pet will fuss over.

See why we'd choose it over fish oil or flax, what Omega-3s are linked to across coat, joints and digestion, and exactly how much to add to the bowl.

For pets

A golden retriever lying on a pale wooden kitchen floor with a grey tabby cat sitting close against its side, both looking off to the left, an empty stainless-steel pet bowl on the floor in front of them and bright window light behind.

One product,
prepared one way

That's the whole of what we make. Everything above is how it got here and what happens to it before it reaches your kitchen.
